The country is celebrating the 204th Bhanu Jayanti, the
birth anniversary of Aadikavi (pioneering Nepali poet) Bhanu Bhakta Acharya, by
organising various programmes on Thursday.
Bhanubhakta who translated the 'Adhyatma Ramayana',
the great Hindu epic, from the Sanskrit to Nepali has significant contribution
to establish and promote Nepali language, literature and culture. His translation
of great epic was significant in the then Nepalese society where common people
did not have access to it. His translation of 'Ramayan' in Nepali language was
a milestone in Nepali literature.
He was born to Dharmawati Devi (mother) and Dhananjay
Acharya (father) on the 29th Asar of 1871 BS at Chundiramgha, Tanahu district.
He earned fame in the Nepali literature with the translation of the Ramayana.
His other famous works are 'Prashnottar', 'Bhaktamala', 'Badhusiksha',
'Ramgeeta' and other short poems.
Darjeeling, the Indian state of West Bengal, also observes
the Bhanu Jayanti every year.
He had passed away on Ashoj 6, 1923 BS.
